Illuminating point made at 23:20. Current deep learning techniques could predict the relative motion of the planets in our solar system, but if a huge new mass entered our solar system, the predictive model would probably fail. Whereas with our scientific model of planetary motion, we could continue to predict the motion of planets. This makes me think of David Deutsch’s distinction between explanatory theories vs. inductive reasoning.
